Things To Do In Belper

Reunion Deli on Strutt Street

Since our launch earlier this year, we noticed many of our customers are visiting the area for the first time and several of our Reunion @ Hub Space coworking members have recently moved to Belper.

As long-term residents of the area, we would love to share some recommendations of things to do in Belper, events to look out for, and other opportunities to get involved in the local community.

Visit the Award Winning High Street-

Belper’s High Street won the Champion High Street Award for England in 2019 and we can see why! Love Belper is a community organisation driving the success of our high street by raising the profile of Belper, planning events and encouraging collaboration.

Belper is home to a wide variety of both local and national businesses, some of our favourite local businesses include: The 1924 Shopping Arcade, Cheeky Bambini Ethical Children’s Clothes and Toys, Think Twice Vintage Clothing Shop, The Willow Gift & Craft Shop, Strut Clothing, Sankara Imports and The Ritz Cinema. We also have Dormouse Book Shop coming in September!

The majority of what a household needs is available in the wider town with the option to make sustainable purchasing decisions. Eartharmony Belper, a local low impact living shop, offers ethical products, vegan home supplies, and liquid refills giving residents an alternative to the typical supermarket shop.

Countryside Walks-

Belper visitors and residents are fortunate to have countryside walks right on the doorstep of our town with many residents living 10 minutes away from beautiful, rural scenery.

The Chevin Circular is a popular walking route in the area which has views from both sides of the river alongside views of Belper and the surrounding area. Our Community Builder, Maggie, is a long-time Belper Resident, and one of her favourite walking locations is Longwalls Lane near Handley woods just near the A517, describing the area as, “a really special place”.

Local publisher Boom House Books have produced Family Walks for Little Legs in Belper & Derbyshire, a guide detailing a range of locations in and around Belper for family walks.

Rowing boats and a play area for children make the gardens a fantastic location for a family trip outdoors. The gardens are also home to a section of the Beth’s Poetry Trail, which uses artwork to depict chosen poems, a free leaflet depicting the trail can be found in Belper Library to explore the trail in its entirety.
