Our Sustainability Statement

Sustainability Statement

We want our customers and suppliers to be confident that Reunion is pushing to be a sustainable business, focussed on reducing its impact on the planet.

We are working with the Transition Belper ‘Zero Waste Belper’ group to become as eco-friendly as we can be, with the aim of not using any single use plastics.

We will be continually updating these as we find more ways to prioritise the planet. If you have a suggestion, please let us know! You can email us hi@reunionbelper.co.uk.

Our initiatives and commitments include:

Eating Seasonally

  • We change our menus each season to make the best of the produce available

  • Minimising our use of produce that requires air miles

Reducing Waste

  • Eco-friendly packaging

  • Recycling on site where possible

  • Trying to use eco friendly deli producers that have good credentials

  • Regular monitoring and reviews of our stock to ensure minimum food wastage

Local Suppliers

  • All meat is sourced through a local butcher who works with local farmers

  • Charcuterie meat is sourced in the UK

  • Local suppliers for fruit and vegetables

  • Belper/Crich suppliers of breads and cakes

  • Coffee roasters located in the East Midlands

Other initiatives for prioritising the planet:

  • Bring your own cup for 30p off a coffee/tea

  • Using Green Energy Supplier ‘Octopus Energy’

  • Low energy LED bulbs throughout

  • Using recycled paper where possible

  • Reducing the amount that we print

  • Low energy appliances

  • Light sensor in bathrooms

  • Ethical bank

  • Use of Electric Vehicles for deliveries and transport

  • Upcycling items through the deli

  • Use of sustainable materials in the deli

We use a green energy supplier, and select the greenest tariffs. Cafes and Delis use a large amount of energy, and we want to be sure that customers who order our food and coffee know that the energy we use comes from the greenest energy sources possible.

Using local suppliers and businesses. This reduces road and air miles on all of our food and products, and helps sustain a local economy so that more people can use local businesses too.

Making sure all our lighting, refrigeration, and heating has the highest eco ratings. It also helps save on the ever increasing electricity bills.

Committing to eco improvements when we find them. Every year we’ll be doing an eco review. Have we made the right choices? Are there things we can change and improve?

Spending time to tailor recipes with fewer miles, and less C02. There are great online resources for helping understand different ingredients C02 impacts. And we’ll make sure we offer fantastic tasting veggie and vegan options that offer people the choice to not eat meat without having to sacrifice on deliciousness.

With the addition of eco-friendly packaging, rainforest alliance approved coffee beans, upcycling materials in the cafe, and having seasonal menus, we’re confident that all businesses can transform towards a greener economy!
