OUR STORY
Reunion Belper was opened in 2022 by Belper couple Jo Black & Matthew Bubis.
Their passion for excellent coffee, high quality, locally sourced delicious food & a welcoming, friendly place to hang out inspired them to start Reunion Deli. That, and realising that working from home was becoming a bit (a lot) of a drag.
Reunion is a community cafe, which for us means offering lots of opportunities for the community to meet, support each other and innovate. We support local charities including Hope for Belper, Pride in Belper, Scouts and more. We also run a community cowork space every Tuesday upstairs at the deli, regular networking events and offer catering and event space hire.
Why are we called Reunion?
Our name comes from La Réunion, the island off the coast of Madagascar, where the first Arabica Bourbon, a high yield coffee tree, was developed.
We were created in 2021, and Reunion seemed the perfect name for our space, a place where we can connect and reconnect, build community, meet our friends and family, work and relax in a fun, inspiring and creative environment that cares about being responsible and eco-conscious.

Reunion’s Ethos
We believe in fairness, transparency, community and locality.
We are responsible - we care about others and prioritise the planet
We offer brilliant customer service and an inclusive community environment where everyone is welcome
We serve high quality, locally sourced food with a focus on seasonality that’s inspired by the world
We serve freshly roasted, ethically sourced coffee that tastes fantastic
We treat each other with respect, kindness and humility
We are collaborative and strive to deliver the best for each other
We build a creative ethos where good ideas can thrive
Our Commitment to Sustainability
Prioritising the planet is a key business goal for us, and really drives our purpose.
To us, sustainability means: supporting local producers and reducing our food miles, cooking and eating seasonally, reducing waste and aiming to become net zero within 5 years.
It’s also giving customers the opportunity to reduce their meat intake (although we do serve locally sourced meat), and reducing unnecessary consumption of energy.
How we will reduce our impact:
Locally sourced food (with 70% of food from within a 20 mile radius)
Plenty of veggie/vegan options
Seasonal menus
Reducing waste wherever possible
Incentives for bringing your reusable cups
Coffee grounds reused and recycled on site
Environmentally friendly packaging
Low energy machinery, lighting and heating
Digital receipts
Thriving Communities
We know that local economies thrive when people have a space to work close to home. Save time and money from not commuting, be closer to your family and meet your business community where you live.
Our independent high street in Belper is fantastic. Imagine a local workspace which means:
Thriving local economies: more money in our town for local businesses
Business training workshops and courses: for small business owners and freelancers
Building local business networks: for greater partnerships in our town
Working close to home: so you can nip in and out as you please
Better for families: no more long commutes
Low environmental impact: heating one space rather than many homes, and an easy location which you can walk/cycle to
